The Hungarian Grand Prix saw an unfortunate first-corner incident that led to a double-DNF for the Alpine team. Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu had a poor start and misjudged his braking, tapping the back of AlphaTauri’s Daniel Ricciardo. Ricciardo, in turn, clipped the Alpine of Esteban Ocon, who couldn’t avoid colliding with his teammate Pierre Gasly.
Ocon’s car was launched into the air after the impact, hitting the ground hard and facing the wrong way. Both Ocon and Gasly attempted to continue, but the damage to their cars was too severe. Gasly had a punctured right rear and had to retire immediately, while Ocon’s racing seat was broken in the landing. As a precaution, Ocon was taken to the Hungaroring’s medical center for checks.
Unfortunately, this was the second consecutive race where both Alpines were eliminated, following their disastrous outing at the British Grand Prix. Ocon had little to comment on the incident, as it was a sudden and unavoidable strike at Turn 1.
