Netflix to release hot indie game ‘Storyteller’

Get ready to embark on a captivating journey of words and imagination as Storyteller, a unique game centered around writing, word puzzles, and the intricate tales we weave to navigate life, arrives on Android and iOS platforms via Netflix on September 26th. Published by Annapurna Interactive, Storyteller initially made its debut on Nintendo Switch and PC on March 23rd, marking the culmination of over a decade of development.

The brainchild of solo creator Daniel Benmergui, Storyteller was first announced in 2011. The game’s prototype even earned recognition for innovation by winning the prestigious Nuovo award at the Game Developers Conference in 2012. However, Benmergui faced various challenges and put the project on hold for several years. With renewed determination, he resumed work on Storyteller and eventually joined forces with Annapurna as the game’s publishing partner.

In Storyteller, players are invited to craft narrative arcs by utilizing comic book-style building blocks, allowing them to shape the lives, deaths, romances, and betrayals of medieval characters along the way. The game provides a soothing, surprising, and often amusing experience that captures the essence of the creative writing process while delving into the absurdities of storytelling.

Upon its arrival on iOS and Android in September, Storyteller will include free downloadable content (DLC) that offers players new stories to weave, expanding the game’s rich tapestry. Simultaneously, the additional content will also be made available for free on the Switch and PC versions.

The collaboration between Storyteller and Netflix presents a logical alliance, particularly considering Netflix’s current focus on indie games. As the streaming giant continues to expand its library of mobile games, accessible to subscribers at no additional cost, it aims to offer nearly 100 titles by the end of the year. Netflix has already introduced notable indie games such as Kentucky Route Zero, Oxenfree, Spiritfarer, Into the Breach, Moonlighter, Laya’s Horizon, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, and Valiant Hearts: Coming Home to iOS and Android devices. Furthermore, the company has even acquired renowned indie studios, including Night School Studio, the creators of Oxenfree.

As the release of Storyteller on Android and iOS draws near, gamers and literature enthusiasts alike can anticipate immersing themselves in a realm where creativity, storytelling, and puzzle-solving converge. The addition of Storyteller to Netflix’s growing roster of captivating indie games demonstrates the platform’s commitment to offering diverse and engaging experiences to its subscribers, further solidifying its position as a prominent player in the gaming industry.
