The Gun Game mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 incorporates the original Call of Duty mini-map. Several fans have chastised Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward for not returning to the old Call of Duty mini-map.
For those who are unaware, Modern Warfare 2 does not designate adversaries as red dots on the map everytime they shoot, but only while a UAV is operating. This implies that while using a pistol without a silencer, players cannot determine the exact position of their opponents, much to the chagrin of some Call of Duty gamers. This old mini-map appears to exist in Modern Warfare 2, although it appears to be confined to one game mode.
According to Dexerto, the Gun Game option in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has the old mini-map, which allows fans to see red dots anytime an adversary shoots a weapon. This has been a contentious issue in Modern Warfare 2, as some fans want this mini-map to return to Call of Duty games, while Infinity Ward claims that it does not want to penalise players for shooting their guns.
Gun Game differs from a standard 6v6 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 battle, which might explain why it has the familiar mini-map. In a Gun Game battle, users are charged with killing adversaries with a sequence of firearms in the shortest time possible, with the goal of becoming the fastest player to cycle through all available weapons.
While Gun Game has appeared in previous Call of Duty titles, it was just introduced to Modern Warfare 2 with Infected and Grind. Last week, Activision added a distinct playlist for Infected, and Grind and Gun Game now have their own playlists in Modern Warfare 2. Additionally, Infinity Ward revealed that Drop Zone, All or Nothing, and One in the Chamber would be added to Modern Warfare 2 in the middle of Season 2, providing players with a choice of game modes to test out during the season.
Season 2 also brought a few maps to Modern Warfare 2, however the primary 6v6 maps weren’t wholly new, since Dome is based on a previous map and Valderas Museum was available in the test before inexplicably disappearing. While Season 2 adds a lot of new material, it’s unclear that any of these maps or modes will have the old mini-map, as it appears to be exclusive to Gun Game.
