Smartphones have become our go-to gadgets for several tasks, and thanks to these devices getting more powerful with every iteration, some people even use smartphones to accomplish some assignments on the job as well. This also means that most of us have some sensitive or confidential data on our smartphones, which we just cannot afford to lose. Now, as is nature, there are situations where we may lose our smartphone or in some cases, the smartphone may even get stolen. In such cases, if your smartphone is Android-powered, there is a very easy way for you to locate your smartphone, and if that does not help, you can even remotely delete all the contents on that smartphone, so that the thief can no longer access anything on the device.
Here’s how you can do it –

Open the web browser on your PC/Laptop.
Head to the Google search engine, and type in ‘Find My Device‘.
Now, you will see a built-in window which will help you track the device from the search result, but if you want more advanced options, click on the official link.
You will now see a control window, where you have the device name on the top left, the live location or approximate location on the right, and some advanced options just below the device name.
- Play Sound – This is helpful if you are near the device or if you have misplaced your device at home. This option will result in a loud buzzer that will help you locate the device.
- Lock Device and Sign out of Google – This option will lock your Android device and your Google Account will be signed out of that particular device. This way, the person who has your device will no longer be able to use any of the features or access any of your data on the device.
- Erase your device – If you are sure that there is no way to retrieve the lost device, this is the kill switch. By enabling this option, all the content on your device will be erased natively. This is the last resort and must be used only when you are 100% certain that the device is now, for all intents and purposes, lost.
Keep in mind that some of these options may require you to sign in, so keep your login credentials ready. Along with these options, you can also approach the authorities who will be more than capable of assisting you in recovering your device.
