YouTuber Trevor Jacob Pleads Guilty to Crashing Plane for Views and Sponsorship

In a stunning development, YouTuber Trevor Jacob has pleaded guilty to obstructing a federal investigation by destroying the wreckage of an airplane he intentionally crashed for views and sponsorship money.

Jacob, a 29-year-old former pro snowboarder turned YouTuber, recorded and uploaded his staged (yet very real) crash landing in Santa Barbara County, CA, in November 2021. The video quickly went viral, garnering over 3.3 million views.

However, Jacob’s stunt soon came under scrutiny from aviation experts, who pointed out a number of inconsistencies in his story. For example, Jacob claimed that the engine on his plane had failed, forcing him to bail out. However, investigators later determined that the engine was in working order when Jacob took off.

Investigators also found that Jacob had equipped the plane with video cameras before taking off. This raised the possibility that Jacob had staged the crash for views and sponsorship money.

Jacob eventually admitted to his crime, pleading guilty to one count of destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.

Jacob’s case is a reminder of the dangers of social media. In the age of the internet, it is all too easy to create a false narrative and deceive the public. This is especially true for YouTubers, who have a large and impressionable audience.

It is important to be critical of the information we consume online, and to be aware of the potential for deception. If you see something that seems too good to be true, it probably is.
