Why does the iPhone battery icon turn yellow

The iPhone series has come a long way since their launch, almost a decade ago. The stellar build and superb hardware sensors have been complemented superbly, by the software, and today, iOS is not just the most aesthetically pleasing, but also the most secure mobile operating system in the market today.

Apple has been very diligent when it comes to the UI elements of the iOS platform and most of them have proven useful to the users, as they convey the exact meaning of a particular situation on your iPhone, in the clearest and easy to understand way.

One such UI element is the yellow battery icon. Usually, when you charge your iPhone, you will see the battery status in green. The moment you reach a dangerously low level on your iPhone battery, you will see the icon turn red. however,  there is actually a middle ground. This middle ground is the Low Power mode. When enabled, the battery saver mode kicks in and starts conserving the energy on the iPhone, by turning off background processes and putting the animations of the UI to a minimum.

The indicator for the low power mode is the yellow battery icon. The moment the iPhone switches to the battery saver, the battery icon goes from green to yellow, and it stays yellow until the iPhone runs out of charge, or you charge it beyond 65% of the full capacity.

Of course, the low power mode on the iPhone is completely voluntary, and it will enable only if you opt to have this feature running on your iPhone. Here’s how you can access the low power mode on the iPhone and decide whether or not you want the feature activated on the iPhone.

Open the ‘Settings’ app on the iPhone.
