When will Neuralink be available to the public?

Elon also announced that they have robots that can carry out this procedure on human beings, with the assistance of neurosurgeons. While all of this sounds interesting, the current update is that the medical experts want to first leverage this technology to help patients who have brain-related disorders, before using it to help humans perform wonders with their thoughts.

How does Neuralink work?

At the heart of Neuralink is the N1, a 4mm chip that is implanted into the skull. Attached to this chip are wires that are thinner than a single human hair, and these wires proceed to interact with the brain. These threads are placed close to important parts of the brain and are able to detect messages as they are relayed between neurons, recording each impulse and stimulating their own. Neuralink claims the N1 is able to connect with 1,000 different brain cells, and that a patient might have as many as 10 N1 chips implanted.

When will Neuralink be available to the public?

Neuralink, the AI chip that will turn humans into computer-programmed units, will be available to put inside humans as soon as 2021, claims the CEO of Tesla Motors (TSLA) Elon Musk. In an interview with the Journal, Musk said that Neuralink is pending approval from the FDA to become the first implanted device in humans which will be able to restore full-body functionality to people with spinal cord injuries. Musk claimed that the benchmarks that his company uses are much higher than the FDA standards.

Neurlink has been making waves on the internet ever since Musk first uttered the possibilities of having such a device. Earlier in 2021, a monkey, implanted with the Neuralink AI chip, was seen playing video games. While being optimistic about the possibility of curing complicated diseases with the help of technology, Musk was also cautious about the success of the chip.
