The WhatsApp Voice Chat feature is stepping up its game, now allowing you to host massive group calls with up to 128 participants.
While the folks at WhatsApp haven’t made it official yet, the details are all there on the Help Center support website. According to the document, to kick off a group voice chat, head to your group chat, hit the audio icon up top, and select “Start Voice Chat.” Just remember, this cool feature is exclusively for your main device, and calls wrap up when everyone leaves or after an hour of solitude.
This update is not your run-of-the-mill group call. According to the whispers, Voice Chat for Larger Groups is designed to be super smooth. No more annoying rings when the call starts – instead, a nifty push notification with an in-chat bubble invites you to join. And up top, you’ve got controls to mute, unmute, and shoot off messages without leaving the call. Plus, it’s all wrapped up in WhatsApp’s signature end-to-end encryption for your privacy.
This update will be seeded to iOS and Android in the weeks to come, but the catch here is that the feature will be seeded to people who are hosting groups with a total member tally of 33 or more. The smaller chats will be accommodated eventually, but it looks like at the moment, only big groups will be able to use this feature. Would you be interested in an updated Voice Chat?
