What is the Android System Webview

The Andorid mobile operating system consists of a lot of internal apps and functionalities which make it work like clockwork. One of these internal apps is the Android System Webview. You may have seen the app in the Play Store when it gets an update. While on the onset, it may look like unnecessary bloatware, but in reality, it is not.

The Android System review has been integrated a little deeper into the Android OS post the Nougat update, but if your smartphone is running an Android version lower than Nougat, this app will be a little more accessible.

But what is the Android WebView app?

The Android Webview app is the package that allows you to open web links within an app without leaving the app and opening your browser all the time. So, if you are inside an app and there is a link, tapping on the link will quickly open a mini browser within the app. This happens due to the Android System Webview app.

If the app does not support a mini browser, the Android System Webview will stay silent and the link will open directly in your default browser.

Ideally, uninstalling this app is not something we would recommend as it will take away a critical functionality and might even cause a few Android features to misbehave. That said if you are running an older version of Android and the Android System Webview app is accessible, you can uninstall it from your device if needed. This is how you can uninstall the Android System Webview from your device.

Step 1. Open the ‘Play Store‘ app on your Android smartphone.
