Tomb Raider Switch Ports Delayed: Two Games Affected

Two Tomb Raider titles that were supposed to be released for the Nintendo Switch have now been postponed. Tomb Raider is one of the longest-running video game brands, with over 88 million copies sold as of January 2022.

Crystal Dynamics and Feral Interactive stated earlier this month that two Tomb Raider titles would be released for the Switch in 2022. Instead of the primary series, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris were revealed for the Switch to commemorate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. It has now been announced that neither game will be released for the Switch in 2022.

According to a recent tweet from Feral Interactive, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris are both set to release on the Nintendo Switch in 2023. In a subsequent tweet, Feral Interactive revealed that it is considering releasing a physical edition of the Tomb Raider titles, but nothing has been finalised yet. Currently, there does not seem to be a specific release date, so fans will have to wait for more solid information on the plan.

With just a few days remaining in the year, it’s hardly surprising that the two games have been pushed out until 2023. Guardian of Light and Temple of Osiris, unlike the primary Tomb Raider titles on consoles, are both played from an isometric viewpoint. Both games offer cooperative gaming and garnered largely favourable reviews from reviewers when they first came out.

While the Switch may be powerful enough to support a version of the rebooted trilogy, no news on Tomb Raider or its successors coming to Nintendo’s system. AAA titles like Doom Eternal, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim have been transferred to the Switch by third-party developers, so it’ll be fascinating to see whether Lara Croft’s newest big-budget adventures are published on the console.

Fans of the Tomb Raider brand have a lot to look forward to in the next years since Crystal Dynamics is presently working on a new AAA game. Amazon Games will publish the upcoming game, which is expected to be the largest release in the Tomb Raider franchise.
