The Subaru Forester Hybrid will utilise components from Toyota

Subaru just dropped the 2025 Forester bomb at the LA Auto Show, but hold on – if you’re thinking hybrid, you’ll need some patience. According to the Subaru of America COO, Jeff Walters, you’re looking at “about a year” after the regular version hits the streets.

Now, here’s the scoop on the hybrid – it’s not going to be an all-Subaru affair. Nope, they’re teaming up with Toyota for this electrified Forester. Picture this: a boxer engine, an electric motor, and a battery pack, all courtesy of Toyota. And fun fact, this isn’t Subaru’s first rodeo with a hybrid Forester – Europe got a taste of it in the previous generation.

Hold tight for the specs; they’re coming soon. But word on the street is, you might see the hybrid Forester in dealerships around spring 2025, just a bit after its gas-powered sibling hits the scene next spring. And it’s no shocker they’re borrowing some Toyota magic – remember the Crosstrek getting a plug-in hybrid from the Prius Prime in 2019?

Now, about fuel economy – brace yourself for some impressive numbers. The 2024 model with its gas-only power was doing up to 29 miles per gallon, but the 2025 hybrid should blow that out of the water. Subaru’s throwing in a revamped dual-zone climate control system for good measure to boost fuel economy. Don’t expect a major dance in mpg numbers since the 2025 Forester is sticking to the Subaru Global Platform.
