Tesla Model Y

Tesla has reduced the range of the Model Y by 20 miles

Even Tesla’s own navigation algorithms acknowledge the disconnect between estimate and actuality. As Electrek noted, plugging in a 260 mile trip into a “330 mile” Model Y triggers a Supercharger stop recommendation. If the range was truly that high, no top-up would be needed.

For now Model Y buyers see revised stats, but it’s unclear if other Teslas will follow suit. With no PR team in classic Elon fashion, don’t expect proactive communication. The CEO simply expects buyers to discover changes along the way.

While unexpected, the Model Y range downgrades provide a dose of reality. Savvy Tesla owners always took official numbers with a grain of salt anyway. And real-world range, not estimates, determines if an EV fits your lifestyle regardless of manufacturer marketing. Test drives rather than spec sheets offer the proof.
