Square Enix Unveils Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link: A GPS-Based RPG Adventure

New Trailer Teases Iconic Characters, Disney Worlds, and More

Square Enix has recently launched a captivating new trailer for “Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link,” an action RPG with a GPS-based twist designed for iOS and Android. The trailer provides an exciting glimpse of various characters and iconic Disney worlds featured in the game.

For those unfamiliar with the Kingdom Hearts franchise, it is an action RPG series born from a unique partnership between Square Enix, the creators of Final Fantasy, and entertainment giant Disney. The inaugural Kingdom Hearts title made its debut back in 2002, introducing players to a multiverse-hopping protagonist named Sora. He embarked on adventures through worlds inspired by Disney films and the Final Fantasy game series.

While the concept of blending Disney and Final Fantasy might seem unconventional, Kingdom Hearts has cultivated a dedicated fanbase over the years, resulting in numerous sequels and spin-offs. “Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link” is the latest addition to this extensive lineup. Based on the trailer, it appears to lean more heavily into the Final Fantasy aspect, showcasing a colorful array of stylishly dressed characters immersed in dramatic and fantastical scenarios.

To the delight of longtime series fans, the game appears to be set in the city of Scala ad Caelum, a location steeped in the series’ lore, mysteries, and intrigue.

Observing the trailer, the battles in “Missing-Link” seem to offer a simplified version of the combat system seen in the main series, but with an intriguing twist. It appears that the protagonist gains spells and abilities by channeling the memories of established Disney characters, a mechanic in harmony with the series’ overall theme. The game’s website also hints at cooperative gameplay elements, allowing players to form parties of up to three to “challenge raid bosses together and gain various advantages.”

While specific details regarding how the GPS features enhance the gaming experience remain undisclosed, the trailer cryptically invites players to “travel the world without stepping outside.” This phrase sparks curiosity and raises questions about the game’s innovative approach. However, it’s clear that “Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link” offers more than just a Kingdom Hearts-themed variation of location-based games like Pokémon Go.

While we await further insights into the game, interested players can sign up for the closed beta test of “Missing Link” on the official website. The iOS beta test is scheduled to commence on November 29, with the Android beta test following in January 2024.
