Sony WH-CH720N: Midrange Headphones with Premium Sound and ANC

Sony has unveiled two new pairs of headphones, the WH-CH720N and WH-CH520, set to hit the market this spring. The WH-CH720N, priced at $150, is an over-ear pair that borrows some of the technology found in Sony’s flagship $400 WH-1000XM5. Using the same V1 chip as its premium sibling, the WH-CH720N offers high-quality sound and active noise cancellation (ANC) at a lower price point.

According to Sony, the WH-CH720N can last up to 35 hours with ANC enabled. The headphones also feature Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) support, which enhances the sound quality of compressed music files, as well as multipoint connectivity and two microphones in each ear cup for 20 levels of noise-canceling/ambient sound. Users can customize the headphones’ settings with the companion Sony Headphones Connect app.

While the WH-CH720N lacks the second ANC processor found in the WH-1000XM5, the V1 chip still provides impressive ANC performance for its price range. Sony has a good track record with its mid-range headphones, often incorporating a few features from its premium models while cutting costs in other areas.

The WH-CH720N will be available in black, blue, and white when it hits the market. Sony’s other new offering, the WH-CH520, is an entry-level on-ear pair that will retail for a mere $60. Though it lacks ANC, it offers an impressive 50 hours of battery life and includes DSEE and multipoint connectivity. Both models offer a stylish and affordable option for music lovers.
