Skyrim VR Gets a Massive Performance Boost Thanks to a New Mod

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR gamers experiencing framerate drops as a result of downloading too many graphics modifications should rejoice as a new version of the game adds support for temporal upscaling and promises to significantly boost performance. While the ability to explore the world of Bethesda Game Studio’s Skyrim in VR has made the game popular, poor performance on all but the most powerful PCs has kept the game out of reach for many gamers.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, released in 2017 and 2018 for PlayStation VR and PC, brings the addictive, open-world gameplay of 2011 original to VR. Although many players were excited to explore Skyrim’s mountainous region in this new, immersive mode, lacklustre performance and unoptimized controls left many unhappy with the VR ports. Much like the original game, a community of skilled producers has generated countless modifications for Skyrim VR over the years, addressing many user grievances.

DLSS 2, FSR2, and XeSS support have been added to Skyrim VR by modder PureDark, according to a recent message from the Flat2VR account on Twitter, which includes modifications for both VR and flatscreen-native games. This new mod, which employs temporal upscaling, may significantly enhance game performance for PC users regardless of video card manufacturer. This Skyrim VR hack has the potential to make the demanding title accessible on lesser hardware while also allowing players on high-end PCs to go all-out with graphical tweaks without worrying about killing their framerate.

Skyrim VR YouTuber Cangar demonstrated the mod in action and gave players a manual on how to use it in a video linked in a follow-up tweet. Cangar, who is standing near the game’s beginning location, enables the mod before turning DLSS on and off to demonstrate the difference in performance and visual quality. With the mod disabled, the game struggles to reach 70fps at Ultra settings, but activating it helps Cangar sustain a near-90fps framerate while increasing antialiasing and overall visual quality.

This new mod might provide the ideal incentive for players who have been putting off jumping into the world of Skyrim VR owing to concerns about poor PC performance to give the open-world VR adventure a try-finally. If walking around the frigid wastelands of the game’s mountainous environment becomes too tiring, players may always lie down and try if they can defeat Skyrim VR lying down.
