Skyrim has turned 11 years old

Skyrim is becoming 11 years old, which is an accomplishment in and of itself, as well as a reminder of how long Bethesda’s 2011 epic RPG has been in the gaming spotlight. With no word on when The Elder Scrolls 6 will be released or what level of production it is presently in, the fifth entry in the long-running game is keeping fans engaged. Many people find it difficult to believe that the game is still capturing their attention after more than a decade.

Skyrim celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, among other acclaimed games like as Portal 2 and Batman: Arkham City. To mark TES5’s tenth anniversary, the developer decided to offer a “Anniversary Edition” of the game, allowing gamers yet another opportunity to experience a more recent version of the release. But it’s been a fascinating trip for many, and no doubt there will be many fans who recall the day it initially came out, most likely unaware of the influence it would have on the gaming industry.

Skyrim, which was released on November 11, 2011, was the highly anticipated sequel to The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, which had a massive fanbase when it was released in 2006. TES5 was an immediate hit because to its spectacular graphics, vast environment to explore, and the ability for players to combat dragons. It’s been ported and re-released to a variety of different platforms over the years, including a basic version of the game that could be played via Alexa.

Skyrim is not just one of the most successful RPGs of all time, but it is also an unusual game in that it has lasted more than 10 years. A large part of its durability may be attributed to a committed modding community that continues to provide so much material for the game. Many of these modifications take the shape of unique missions or characters, UI adjustments, bug patches that Bethesda clearly overlooked, and a bevy of graphical updates that help maintain this piece of Tamriel looking nice after all these years. As such, Skyrim has weathered the test of time, while many players are eager to move on to the next game.

Given that Bethesda just published the Skyrim Anniversary Edition for Switch, the company is clearly continuing its pattern of re-releasing its valuable asset as often as feasible. It’s up to you whether it’s a good thing or a terrible thing, but the fact that the game is still running strong, even as it enters its 11th year, demonstrates that Skyrim clearly has something going for it. Or maybe it’s because there isn’t a TES6 to continue on the heritage.
