Samsung to Certify Controllers Optimized for Game Streaming on Smart TVs

Samsung is aiming to expand its smart TV game streaming ecosystem. Ahead of CES 2024, the company unveiled a new certification program called “Designed for Samsung Gaming Hub.” It will officially designate third-party accessories optimized to work seamlessly with Samsung’s platform.

Hardware partners in the program can display a special “Designed for Samsung Gaming Hub” badge on products meeting Samsung’s criteria. While most Bluetooth controllers technically work with Gaming Hub, this label signifies ideal compatibility, performance quality, safety and security according to Samsung.

However, if you already own a controller connecting via Bluetooth that you enjoy using with Gaming Hub, feel free to stick with that. This new program is primarily for those wanting dedicated shortcut buttons and optimal integration.

For context, Samsung Gaming Hub provides access to Xbox Game Pass, GeForce Now, Amazon Luna and other leading game streaming services right on compatible Samsung smart TVs. Music and video platforms like Spotify, Twitch and YouTube are also available through the Hub.

The first certified product is PDP’s new Replay Wireless Controller. It offers up to 40 hours of battery life and low-latency Bluetooth from up to 30 feet away. Special Samsung Gaming Hub and TV remote shortcut buttons are included.

The PDP Replay is now available for pre-order on PDP’s website priced at $59.99. Samsung says Amazon and Best Buy will sell the controller later as well.

Between the certification program and new hardware partnerships, it’s clear Samsung is investing heavily in its burgeoning game streaming platform. The goal is to provide the best possible experience for playing video games on the company’s market-leading smart TVs both now and in the future.
