Royal Enfield Unveils Production-Ready Shotgun 650: Retro Charm with Urban Comfort

Royal Enfield has unveiled the production-spec Shotgun 650 after previewing it via a limited edition factory custom at its Motoverse festival. The retro-styled motorcycle shares its 648cc parallel-twin engine and main frame with the Super Meteor 650, churning out 47hp and 52.3Nm.

The key differences lie in the ergonomics and styling. The Shotgun gets a more upright riding stance thanks to flatter handlebars and mid-set footpegs. It rides on an 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combo unlike the Meteor’s 19-inch/16-inch setup, necessitating suspension tweaks.

Visually, the production Shotgun ditches the hand-painted custom bodywork for more straightforward color schemes – Green Drill, Plasma Blue, Sheet Metal Grey and Stencil White. Other changes include a taller 795mm seat height, shorter wheelbase, overall length and 1kg lesser weight at 240kg. The 13.8-liter fuel tank is smaller than the Meteor’s though.

Equipment like the LED headlamp, Tripper navigation and dual-channel ABS is shared with its sibling. The Shotgun preserves the Meteor’s flexibility of being offered in single or dual seat versions.

Positioned as a more comfortable daily rider compared to the Super Meteor, the Shotgun 650 production model retains the retro appeal and twin-cylinder performance of the limited edition it is based on. The different ergonomics and styling give it a more laidback, upright character that should appeal to urban commuters.
