According to Deadline, Netflix’s Resident Evil series has been canceled a little over a month after its launch. Due to low ratings and viewership, the streamer apparently opted not to continue the series.
Netflix’s live-action series, like many previous Resident Evil adaptations, seeks to put a new twist on the video game genre. The episode, directed by Andrew Dabb of Supernatural, alternates between two universes, focusing on Umbrella CEO Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick) and his two children (played by Tamara Smart and Siena Agudong).
In addition to the live-action adaption, Netflix just published the animated four-part series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. The series, which focuses largely on the mythos of the Resident Evil franchise, has received mixed reviews. Even though Netflix’s live-action Resident Evil wasn’t exactly the smash success it hoped for, the streaming service has many more video game adaptations in the works, including Horizon Zero Dawn, Tomb Raider, Far Cry, and Bioshock. Netflix already has a Castlevania anime and just premiered a Tekken animated adaption.
