Finally, SeithCG’s Ghost of a Tale 2 has released its first screenshot online. Fans of 2018’s humorous stealth RPG have long called for a sequel, but the independent developer has never unequivocally said that one was in the works. Only a few hazy pictures that were more of a teaser than a confirmation have been released thus far.
The tale of Tilo, a little mouse minstrel who is searching for his wife Maria after they get separated and imprisoned, is told in Ghost of a Tale. What seems to be a cutesy game at first rapidly turns itself to have an interesting plot, reasonably in-depth character development, and a pleasing visual aesthetic. Ghost of a Tale received generally favourable reviews when it was first published on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It was then ported to Nintendo Switch and Amazon Luna.
Recently, Ghost of a Tale 2 developer SeithCG posted a screenshot on Twitter with the simple remark, “Have you seen this Mouse…?” Those who played Ghost of a Tale may recognise mushrooms, an apple, and candles in the scene, which is similar to the Jail area from the original game. A wanted poster for Tilo is also displayed on the wall. Fans have already praised the picture and its hashtag, “GhostOfATale2,” in the comments, and several have noted that the independent developer switched from Unity to Unreal Engine 5.
Since SeithCG has just been using Unreal Engine for eight months and had to completely relearn everything, this is simply the first screenshot, they said in a response to a Twitter remark. The very tiny size of the production team is another factor that should definitely temper release date expectations for Ghost of a Tale 2.
Lionel “Seith” Gallat, a veteran of the film business who previously worked as an animator at Dreamworks and Universal Pictures, created the first game largely as a one-man crew. After earning useful experience on films like The Lorax, Flushed Away, and Despicable Me from Illumination Entertainment, Gallat transitioned to game development and raised money for Ghost of a Tale via an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign.
Gamers searching for a game with a similar vibe have a few alternatives as they wait for the release of Ghost of a Tale 2. The most apparent examples will be Styx: Master of Shadows and its follow-up Styx: Shards of Darkness, both of which play similarly to SeithCG’s game in terms of stealth, but with a bit more fighting and fewer talking rodents. And those who preferred playing as an animal with human characteristics should have downloaded F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch, which was the free Epic Games Store game on December 26.
