The breakout indie hit video game Dave the Diver is splashing down on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 this April. The underwater adventure title took home Indie Game of the Year honors at last year’s Game Awards while also landing on Engadget’s Best Games of 2023 list.
In Dave the Diver, players explore a massive underwater realm filled with mysteries during the day. When night falls, the setting shifts to managing your own sushi restaurant. The fusion of Metroidvania-style aquatic exploration and restaurant simulation gameplay blends together surprisingly well by all accounts.
Dave the Diver first launched on PC back in June, later swimming to Nintendo Switch in October. The upcoming PlayStation release promises to take immersion up a notch via specialized DualSense controller support. The adaptive triggers will alter feedback based on which weapon players wield, while subtle haptics are said to realistically simulate the tug of a caught fish on your line.
The PlayStation version also comes with bonus Godzilla DLC arriving shortly after launch in May. So far details are scarce, but the DLC introduces gigantic new threats in the ocean depths to coincide with an encounter with the legendary movie monster himself.
For a game that already shook up industry expectations of what a modern indie title can be, the PlayStation release of Dave the Diver looks to turn the immersion up further through PS5 gameplay innovations. And the impending showdown with the King of the Monsters himself should keep the wild ride going strong. Players can check out the hybrid simulator for themselves when Dave the Diver releases on PlayStation Store this April.
