PS5 Beta Update Includes Discord Voice Chat Integration for Enhanced Gaming Experience

According to a report from VGC, PlayStation has begun allowing beta testers from the US, UK, Canada, France, Japan, and Germany to access Discord, as of today. With this integration, users will be able to use the app and join voice channels to communicate with friends on other platforms such as Xbox, PC, and mobile devices. However, to use this feature, users must link their PSN and Discord accounts, and if they have already done so previously, they will have to relink them after this beta update.

It is worth noting that users will need to have the Discord mobile app or desktop version installed to access it on their PS5. After linking both accounts and granting necessary permissions to the console, users must transfer their conversations manually from the mobile app to their PS5.

While this is good news for PS5 users, Sony has not announced any plans to integrate Discord with the PS4. The company is focusing primarily on the current generation, and it has gradually been phasing out the PS4 by reducing the number of games being launched on the console. This could be a sign that Sony is slowly phasing out the console after a decade-long run.

Sony’s partnership with Discord was announced in 2021, and Xbox was the first to launch the integration in September 2022. Xbox Insiders had access to the feature prior to the full launch, and it was later released after optimizing the app for the console.

In addition to the Discord integration, the latest PS5 update includes several new social features and support for 1440p VRR. Users can now request friends to share their screens, and transferring data from PS4 to PS5 has become easier. PS5 to PS5 transfers are now possible via LAN cable or Wi-Fi.
