According to a recent online post, Activision may have experienced a data breach in December 2022, causing Call of Duty 2023 plans to become public accidently. Several fans are now concerned about some of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Season 2’s persisting troubles, hoping for greater revisions in 2023. Yet, the claimed disclosures are unlikely to help the brand, especially with the next seasonal changes.
Although Modern Warfare 2 is presently in its second season, Activision has yet to clarify its long-term ambitions for the game. While fans have grown to expect annual releases from the famous shooter, the firm was reportedly not planning on releasing one this year. But, fresh rumours indicate that a full Call of Duty 2023 release is on the way. Activision may have more in the works, according to an alleged data leak from a few months ago.
Activision had a data breach on December 4, 2022, according to @vx-underground, a portal that collects malware source codes and leaked documents. The attackers had reportedly hijacked a high-ranking employee’s account to obtain access to confidential data, including Call of Duty content plans extending to November 17, 2023. Similarly, the franchise’s next seasons will begin with Season 3 between March 18 and May 15, followed by Season 4 between May 15 and July 16, Season 5 between July 16 and September 15, and Season 6 between September 15 and November 8.
The paper also states that a deluge of new material would be released alongside the forthcoming seasons. This features, among other things, extra gunfights, Spec Operations missions, raids, Tier 1 events, a “Haunting of Saba” event for Halloween, and 70 packages every season. Seasons three through six will allegedly include seven main maps, however some of them may be rehashes of prior maps. Another “tiny map,” akin to Modern Warfare 2’s Shipment map, is also said to be debuting in Season 4.
Surprisingly, the leaked paper includes the start date for a project called “Jupiter,” which is set to begin on April 7 and last until the second half of 2023. While details are few, Project Jupiter is believed to relate to the next main entry in the Call of Duty franchise. Of course, given the nature of the document, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt. Even if the timeline is confirmed, Activision will almost certainly adjust its plans to avoid the problem. Activision has already begun teasing future improvements, such as the return of fan-favorite modes in Call of Duty Season 3. In any case, only time will tell how much of its 2023 content plans will be impacted as a result of this disclosure.
