Polyphony Digital confirms that a PC release of Gran Turismo 7 is not planned

The release of PlayStation’s first-party games on PC has garnered a lot of attention. Spider-Man, God of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn had all made the transition to PC in the last year, so speculations that Gran Turismo 7 may be next looked reasonable.

That story was based on an interview with GTPlanet in which Gran Turismo developer Kazunori Yamauchi was asked directly if a PC version was something he was thinking about. “Yes, I believe so,” he said, adding that such a PC version would be tough to achieve since “not many systems […] could run the game in 4K/ 60 FPS natively.”

That dialogue seems to have been misconstrued. Yamauchi said in a recent interview with Dengeki Online, which was translated by Twitter user Genki JPN (all courtesy of VGC), that a PC version of Gran Turismo 7 is not present in the works.

“That’s not true,” he said when questioned about reports of Gran Turismo 7 being ported. “Regarding the PC version, I replied ‘(as a developer) it’s not that I haven’t considered all the possibilities.’ That implies the likelihood is not zero; simply put, if you ask me, “Are you doing anything concrete?” I am not. There is nothing to talk about.”

In other words, there won’t be a Gran Turismo 7 on Steam anytime soon. God of War took years to arrive on PC, and Sony has only just begun to recognise the significance of the PC as a platform. I wouldn’t be shocked to hear about a PC version of Gran Turismo 7 in the future.

Gran Turismo had 90 million copies sold, according to Yamauchi, making it the PlayStation’s best-selling first-party title. That news came on the 25th anniversary of Gran Turismo, coupled with a tale about the game’s roots and how Polyphonic Digital grew from a staff of five to a company of over 200 personnel.
