On April 6, the price of Pokémon Go’s Remote Raid Pass is set to increase, almost doubling the cost of one of the game’s most vital features. Remote Raids were introduced during the pandemic as a way for players to engage in PvE battles from the comfort of their own homes. However, Niantic, the developer behind the mobile-based AR monster-catching simulator, has decided to place a higher premium on the feature. The three-pack price will increase from 300 to 525 PokéCoins, and a single Remote Raid Pass will now cost 195 PokéCoins, up from 100.
While video game price hikes are never popular, the increased cost of Pokémon Go’s Remote Raids is causing even more concern. Disabled players and those who live in remote areas benefited greatly from the feature, and the price hike will make it more challenging for them to enjoy the raids. A Reddit user has even called for a mass boycott, and another user shared an image likening Pokémon Go to the Titanic, doomed to sink on April 6 as “millions of players lost their interest.”
