Guess what’s making a comeback in Europe? The Le Car, yeah, that one! It’s like Renault is turning back the clock, bringing back the R5, and they’re planning to unveil it at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show on February 26. But before the big day, they’re teasing us with some design details. The headlights, taillights – it’s all there, showing us how it’s evolved from the 2021 prototype.
Now, here’s a cool nugget – they’re putting an oversized “5” on the hood as a battery charge light. Fancy, right? This city-focused electric ride is kicking off with a 52-kilowatt-hour battery pack, giving it a decent 248-mile range. And get this, it’s just about the size of a Miata, at 154.3 inches long – perfect for zipping around town.
The teasers spill the beans on the Le Car’s look – five doors, sneaky handles in the C-pillars, short overhangs, and a beefy roof spoiler. They’re even cooking up a sportier Alpine version, teased by the A290 concept.
Replacing the aging Zoe, the Le Car is being smart about costs, borrowing a bunch of components – up to 70% – from the Clio and tweaking the CMF-B platform. And, of course, it’s all about going electric, with four hefty battery modules shedding some pounds compared to the Zoe.
Starting at around €25,000 ($27,200), the Le Car is just the beginning. Renault has plans to electrify more classics – the Renault 4 in 2025 and the Twingo in 2026.
