MiHoYo, the developer behind the popular game Genshin Impact, has announced the release date for its new game, Honkai: Star Rail. The tactical, turn-based, space-fantasy RPG is set to launch on April 26th for PC and mobile platforms. In addition to this, the developer has also confirmed that a PlayStation (PS5 / PS4) version of the game will be available “later.”
While not much is known about the game, it has been revealed that Honkai: Star Rail will offer turn-based combat instead of the open-world action seen in Genshin Impact. Based on the game’s trailers, the art style seems to be inspired by anime, with a cast of memorable characters. The story is set in the same universe as Honkai Impact 3rd and follows the protagonist’s journey to uncover the truth about the “Cancer of All Worlds” while exploring diverse worlds like snow-covered Jarilo-VI.
Like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail will use gacha-style loot boxes for monetization. The game has been rated T for Teen and will be available for standalone installation or through the Epic Games Store on PC, as well as on iOS and Android platforms. The release date for the PlayStation version has not been announced yet.
MiHoYo’s Genshin Impact was a huge success, and it will be interesting to see if the developer can replicate that success with Honkai: Star Rail. With a unique gameplay style and an anime-inspired art style, the game is sure to attract fans of the genre.
