Liam Lawson Faces a Year on the Sidelines, But Will Return Stronger in 2025

Liam Lawson, the talented Kiwi racer, has been making waves in the Formula 1 scene with his standout performances as a substitute for Daniel Ricciardo at AlphaTauri while the Australian is recovering from a broken metatarsal in his hand. Despite securing his maiden points in Singapore, Lawson narrowly missed the opportunity to secure a full-time seat for 2024 as AlphaTauri decided to stick with their existing driver lineup. However, the team recognized Lawson’s potential and offered him a reserve role with both AlphaTauri and the senior Red Bull team.

Pierre Gasly, Lawson’s teammate at AlphaTauri, acknowledges the challenges the young driver will face spending a year on the sidelines after tasting the excitement of being on the F1 grid. Gasly empathizes with Lawson, understanding the desire, motivation, and competitive spirit that drives a Formula 1 driver.

Gasly commented, “I know how it feels. It can be very difficult when you have to be so competitive as a driver, which is a prerequisite in Formula 1. You have the will, the desire, and the motivation to go out there. It definitely feels like he is ready to make that step to drive a full season. I also personally think he deserves it, but he needs to be patient. That’s not nice to hear, but unfortunately, there is no other choice. I am sure we will see him in 2025.”

While the 2024 season may see Liam Lawson in a reserve role, his determination and talent are expected to shine through, setting the stage for a promising return to the F1 grid in 2025.
