LG and Dolby Introduce a new type of home audio with Dolby Atmos FlexConnect

LG Electronics and Dolby Laboratories have released detailed information about a new home audio platform built around Dolby Atmos FlexConnect. The announcement was made ahead of CES 2026. The centerpiece of this platform is the LG Sound Suite. It includes the H7 soundbar. The H7 is the first soundbar to be powered by Dolby Atmos FlexConnect technology. This launch extends Dolby Atmos FlexConnect into a completely new category of audio devices and gives consumers new ways to tailor their home audio system, marking a major milestone in home entertainment.

Dolby Atmos FlexConnect is an audio system technology that lets compatible speakers connect wirelessly and be placed anywhere in a room without strict placement requirements. Traditional surround sound systems depend on fixed speaker placement. FlexConnect instead automatically optimizes the audio based on where speakers are and where the listener is seated. This approach aims to simplify immersive sound setup while maintaining surround sound characteristics.

The LG Sound Suite is modular. It includes the H7 soundbar as its primary unit. Additional components can be added over time. These include M7 and M5 wireless surround speakers and a W7 subwoofer. In total, the system supports up to 27 different speaker configurations. At its largest setup, users can build a 13.1.7 channel configuration. This means one soundbar, multiple surround speakers, and height channels for full Dolby Atmos playback.

A modular design lets users start with a simple setup and expand it slowly. For example, a user could begin with just the H7 soundbar with an LG TV. Later, they could add surround speakers and a subwoofer. Wireless connections remove the need for extensive cabling in a living room or dedicated home theater space. Each component uses Peerless audio drivers, a brand known for performance in premium speaker systems.

LG Sound Suite is designed to work with more than just LG TVs. When used with the H7 soundbar as the main device, Dolby Atmos FlexConnect will work with any television that has HDMI connection. Beyond that, LG will make Dolby Atmos FlexConnect available to select premium LG TVs from 2025 and 2026 via a future software update. This expands the potential user base. Users with compatible LG TVs can add wireless speakers without needing the H7 soundbar.

Sound Follow technology is included with the LG Sound Suite. It uses ultra-wideband tracking to adjust the focus of the audio toward the listener’s position. This feature tries to maintain consistent sound quality no matter where someone is seated in a room. Room Calibration Pro analyzes the acoustic properties of the room and applies digital signal adjustments to balance sound output based on the layout.

LG officials said the Sound Suite reflects a broader shift toward flexible, user friendly audio solutions for home entertainment. Dolby representatives stated that the partnership with LG extends Dolby Atmos technology into new hardware categories. The focus is on making it easier for consumers to adopt immersive audio without the complexity of traditional surround systems. The suite will be showcased at CES 2026 in Las Vegas early next year.
