Latest patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare squashes more bugs

Sledgehammer Games just rolled out a quick update to deal with some annoying issues when moving from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to Modern Warfare 2. They’ve fixed the long load times and crashes that players were grappling with, especially when messing around in the Weapons tab during cross-launching. If you’re playing on PC, be ready for potentially longer waits to kick off your Modern Warfare 3 session, all because Activision decided to lump everything Call of Duty-related under Modern Warfare 2.

The launch of Modern Warfare 3 wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. It had a short and kind of lackluster single-player campaign, along with a bunch of performance problems and bugs in multiplayer. They dropped a massive 51 GB day one patch to try and sort things out, but it didn’t do much for the headaches players faced when switching from Modern Warfare 3 to Modern Warfare 2. PC players, in particular, got the short end of the stick, having to fire up Modern Warfare 2 before diving into Modern Warfare 3, thanks to Activision’s decision.

In response, Sledgehammer Games announced a small update to tackle two bugs that popped up when transitioning from Modern Warfare 3 to Modern Warfare 2. According to a tweet from the devs a day after Modern Warfare 3 hit the scene, the update deals with the lengthy load times when moving between the two games and takes a swing at the bug causing crashes when checking out the Weapons tab during cross-launching.

This update is a lifeline for PC gamers deep into Modern Warfare 3 because Activision’s move means they might be stuck twiddling their thumbs for 70 to 90 seconds just to get the game rolling. Unfortunately, the wait can vary depending on your PC specs, with those on either the recommended or minimum system requirements potentially enduring a lengthier wait.
