Call of Duty launches AI Voice Chat Moderation System

With the drop of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the game is stepping up its game to tackle the toxic talk that’s been a buzzkill in matches. They’re introducing this fancy new voice chat moderation system run by AI, the “ToxMod.” Been in testing since August in North America, and now, with the worldwide release of Modern Warfare 3, they’re rolling it out everywhere.

Toxic speech has been a real headache for the Call of Duty crew, and they’ve been swinging the banhammer for a while now, trying to keep voice and text chats in check. But with the crazy number of players jumping in daily, it’s been a tough nut to crack. So, they’re bringing in the big guns—ToxMod, cooked up by Modulate, a team on a mission to wipe out online toxicity.

The global launch alongside Modern Warfare 3 means ToxMod is on duty, filtering out trash talk in voice and text across a whopping 14 languages. And the plan? They’re looking to add Spanish and Portuguese to the mix for voice chat moderation.

Now, Call of Duty isn’t the only game grappling with this toxicity issue, but they’ve been making moves. Last year, they laid down a fresh code of conduct that kicked out half a million troublemakers. But, here’s the kicker: they’re using AI to listen in on conversations. Yeah, it’s for the greater good, trying to make the gaming space more welcoming. Still, the idea of AI eavesdropping might not sit well with everyone. Despite the potential controversy, it seems the Call of Duty team is taking a stand against toxicity, making strides to keep the gaming community a bit friendlier.
