McLaren driver Lando Norris has spoken out about his team’s current performance in the Formula 1 season, defending their efforts and claiming that Red Bull has “embarrassed everyone” with their dominance on the track.
Despite McLaren’s struggles to meet their development targets, Norris remains optimistic about the team’s chances and believes that they are closer to the top than ever before. He pointed out that the poor performances of teams like Williams, Haas, and Alfa Romeo have made the difference look worse for McLaren, but acknowledged that significant improvements are still needed.
“We’re not where we want to be, but we’re still in the fight,” Norris stated. “We’re closer to where Aston Martin and Mercedes are than we’ve ever been. Red Bull has embarrassed everyone, but we’re not far off.”
Norris also praised the efforts of his team and their continued drive to improve, despite the setbacks they have faced this season.
“We have a really good group of people, and we’re all working really hard to make the car better. We know what we need to do to improve, and we’re all focused on that,” he said.
However, Norris acknowledged that the team still has a long way to go to become a championship-winning team, and that significant progress is needed to catch up with the likes of Ferrari and Aston Martin.
“We need to make a big step forward, like Ferrari and Aston Martin did. They’ve made a big step forward, and we need to do the same if we want to be at the top,” he explained.
Fans of McLaren will undoubtedly be hoping for a turnaround in the team’s fortunes as the season progresses, with Norris and his teammates working hard to close the gap on their rivals and make a push for the top spots on the leaderboard.
