Your favourite Manga series might soon be a little bit simpler to read: Attack on Titan and Ghost in the Shell creator Kodansha has announced that it would introduce a new digital reading platform in May. The new app, simply branded K Manga, claims to debut with a backlog of 400 titles and give early access to new chapters from the most well-liked series from the publisher.
Users will be able to “read limited chapters of manga for free,” while the announcement does not specify if K Manga would offer Manga by the volume or have a paid subscription tier. The app appears to be promoting itself as a substitute for the unofficial pirate sites that offer fan-translated Manga for free online, along with the claim that K Manga releases will be “official translations”
What will you be reading on the app, exactly? The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse and Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro are two recent series that Kodansha spotlights, but the company’s previous catalogue offers a tonne of potential. Kodansha is the publisher of classic hits like Sailor Moon, Akira, and Battle Angel Alita even though none of these series have been formally confirmed for K Manga as of yet.
On May 10, the K Manga app will go live.
