Intel receives a massive order for Arc GPUs, signaling continued pursuit of graphics card market

Following the departure of Intel’s Accelerated Graphics Unit head, Raja Koduri, there were concerns about the future of Intel Arc. However, reports suggest that Intel has ordered a significant amount of TSMC silicon to power its upcoming GPU lineup, including the Intel Arc Battlemage and Intel Arc Celestial.

Although the current Intel Arc Alchemist hasn’t made a significant impact in the GPU market due to supply constraints and driver issues, the addition of a third player could benefit the industry by increasing competition.

According to sources, the Intel Arc Battlemage cards will launch in the second half of 2024, with Intel Arc Celestial following in the second half of 2026. Intel Arc Battlemage will be built on TSMC’s 4nm process, with Celestial using its 3nm process. Despite being behind AMD and Nvidia in terms of manufacturing cadence, Intel’s commitment to the graphics card division is a positive sign.
