How to Remap Your Laptop’s Copilot Key in Windows 11 (2025 Guide)

If you’ve recently unboxed a shiny new Windows laptop in 2025, you might have noticed something different on your keyboard – a dedicated Copilot button. Whether you’re rocking a Snapdragon powerhouse, an Intel Core Ultra machine, or an AMD Ryzen AI laptop, Microsoft has added this little key to make AI assistance just a tap away.

But let’s be honest – not everyone’s ready to embrace our AI overlords just yet! Maybe you keep hitting it by accident when reaching for Ctrl, or perhaps you’d rather use that prime keyboard real estate for something more practical. Good news: I’ll show you how to make that key work for YOU instead.

Let’s Get Started!

Step 1: Dive Into Windows Settings

First things first! There are two ways to get where we need to go:

  • Quick way: Right-click anywhere on your desktop and hit Personalize
  • Alternative route: Tap your trusty Win key and launch the Settings app

Step 2: Find the Magic Spot

Once you’re in Settings, here’s what to do:

  • Click on Personalization in the left menu
  • Scroll down until you spot Customize Copilot key on keyboard (Pro tip: It’s usually near the bottom!)

Step 3: Choose Your Adventure

Now comes the fun part! You’ve got three fantastic options:

  1. Keep Copilot: Leave it as is if you’re an AI enthusiast, and need the assistant to be avaiable at your every beck and call.
  2. Search Mode: Transform it into a lightning-fast search key, to help you locate files or content that you need urgently.
  3. Custom Launch: Make it open your favorite app

Step 4: Making It Your Own

If you go with Search, every press will instantly focus your cursor in the search box – super handy for quick searches!

For the Custom option, you’ll see a menu of installed apps. While you won’t find every app here (sorry, Epic Games fans!), you’ll have access to:

  • Microsoft’s own apps (Calculator, Paint, etc.)
  • Most Microsoft Store apps
  • Popular apps like Telegram and Slack

Pro Tips

  • The custom app selection might seem limited, but it covers most daily-use applications
  • Can’t find your favorite app? Make sure it’s installed via Microsoft Store
  • Remember, you can always change this setting back if you change your mind!

That’s all there is to it! Your Copilot key is now working exactly how YOU want it to. Isn’t it amazing what a little customization can do?
