How AI continues to change the gaming industry

How AI continues to change the gaming industry

A great example is NPCs on the popular Rockstar game Grand Theft Auto. GTA has had multiple series and we’ve seen how NPCs have improved so much on GTA V.

In the first few editions of GTA like Vice City and San Andreas, whenever the character commits a crime, law enforcers just automatically start a chase. Because AI has improved so much since the creation of GTA V, the experience becomes more realistic because bystanders or witnesses now call the cops with their phones to report the crime.

Aside from this, NPCs are more reactive towards the movements of the player character. In the old GTA games, you can bump into NPCs and only hear a reaction from them. They may be annoyed or even just ignore what happened but on GTA V, the player doesn’t even have to bump into them anymore to get a reaction. If the player character is standing or walking next to an NPC too closely, the NPC could already react negatively.

Conclusion

With all that, we can truly say that AI is revolutionary for the gaming industry. Thanks to AI, games make more sense and are even more realistic. It is to the point that players sometimes even feel attached to the characters that play or control. Even with how great modern games are with the latest AI tech, there’s still much that AI Can do to improve gaming. It’s surely exciting to see how far AI can take gaming to the next level.
