Google has announced updates to its Search feature to help users control information about them that appears in search results. The “results about you” tool will now proactively alert users when personal information, such as phone numbers, addresses, or emails, pops up in Search. Users can easily ask Google to remove those results. The tool is accessible through the Google app or a dedicated webpage.
Additionally, Google is expanding its policy for removing explicit photos of individuals from search results. Users can now request the removal of non-consensual explicit images as well as consensual imagery if they no longer want it to be available.
Google is also rolling out updates for parental controls and SafeSearch, blurring explicit imagery in search results by default and making it easier to access parental control settings from Search.
These updates are aimed at helping users protect their privacy and control the information that appears about them in Google Search results. The features are initially available in the US in English, with plans to expand to other languages and regions soon.
