Back to Search in September 2022, Google said that Search will make it “easier to investigate a topic by showcasing the most relevant and useful information,” and that the Knowledge Panel overhaul is underway.
These highlights are represented by cards organized in a grid style. What is shown depends on the subject, but a carousel of photos is always displayed initially. In the case of cities, you receive “Weather averages” (as highs and lows for the month), the time it takes to “Get there” from your present position, a map, and a description.
When searching for meals or recipes, the description is shown first, followed by videos and articles and a “Things to Know” carousel. On mobile, these cards are often related to the content (for example, pesto green, ragù red, and so on). However, many of the cards are just blue.
The normal web results show as you scroll. Only the two aforementioned categories are receiving this Knowledge Panel change on mobile.
On the desktop, we only see it for persons. The addition of a huge Knowledge Panel grid that begins with photographs and emphasizes information such as age, spouse, and social media account is notable. Athletes may also get cards for their height, financial worth, and most recent recap video. The About description and other information are still shown on the right sidebar.
This grid, which displays immediately after the Search bar, is highly noticeable and catches your attention.
Google has yet to broadly push out this new card redesign across all Knowledge Panel categories, or even across all results within a single one. Google will showcase “material from producers on the open web” in addition to information.
