Garmin’s Latest Leak: Wearables with Extended Battery Life Set to Challenge Industry Standards

Garmin’s upcoming smartwatches are expected to be revamped versions of older series. A recent leak from German tech news site, WinFuture, revealed that the company will soon be launching the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro, Fenix 7X Pro, Epix Pro Gen 2, and Approach S70. While there isn’t much technical information available about these new models, the leaked images suggest some upcoming features and improvements.

The Fenix 7 Pro and 7X Pro will reportedly follow the same trajectory as the current Fenix 7 model. They will be available in base, Solar, and Sapphire Solar versions. The Solar feature will greatly extend the battery life to days or even weeks, while the Sapphire Solar version will come with sapphire glass, a type of crystalline material known for its exceptional toughness. The Fenix 7X Pro is expected to have a longer battery life and better performance than its predecessor.

As for the Epix Pro Gen 2 and Approach S70, the leak reveals little information beyond the fact that the Epix Pro Gen 2 will be available in three different sizes and the Approach S70 will be Garmin’s next golf watch.

The new smartwatches will come in shades of black, white, and grey, with some featuring coloured accents. Pricing is unknown, but the WinFuture report predicts that the Epix Pro Gen 2 will cost at least 900 Euros (around $975 USD, £784, or $1,471 AUD).

The launch of the new smartwatches is expected near the end of May going into June, along with Garmin’s Epix 2 Pro. The leak raises questions about why Garmin is focusing on older series rather than releasing its upcoming flagship smartwatch, the Fenix 8. However, the company has a track record of releasing revamped versions of older smartwatches, and the success of the Instinct 2 suggests that this strategy may be effective.
