Eve Weather Station Now More Accessible with Matter Integration

Eve, a smart home brand, is reintroducing its smart weather station with new support for the Matter standard. The device, known as the Eve Weather, offers a large display showing the current temperature, local humidity levels, and a 12-hour weather forecast. It also indicates whether the day will be sunny or cloudy.

With Matter compatibility, the device can be integrated into various smart home systems. Eve states that it can connect with platforms like Google Home, allowing the entire family to check the weather forecast using an iPhone, Android device, or voice assistants like Alexa and Siri. Additionally, the company mentions that Eve Weather can facilitate more advanced automations when connected to other devices on the Matter network. For instance, a smart lamp could be programmed to turn on when the temperature drops, or a humidifier could activate under certain conditions.

For those who own the older Apple HomeKit version of Eve Weather, there is no need for concern. The previous generation will receive Matter support through an over-the-air firmware update via the official app, with one limitation: the device must have been purchased after 2021. This is when Eve transitioned to the Thread smart home protocol and discontinued the use of Bluetooth Low Energy.

Apart from the addition of Matter support, the updated Eve Weather remains unchanged. It is a compact device with dimensions of 2.1 x 2.1 x 0.6 inches (54 x 54 x 16 mm) and has an IPX4 water resistance rating, making it resistant to water splashes but not immersion or strong water blasts.

The new Eve Weather, like the previous version, is priced at $79.95. To fully utilize the device, a Matter controller such as the fifth-generation Echo Dot is recommended. For iPhone users, the HomeKit version is still available at the same price, and there is also an option to purchase a bundle of two for $149.90.
