Following the critical and financial success of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, many anticipated the futuristic RPG Cyberpunk 2077 to be a big leap forward for the genre when it was initially unveiled with the first teaser trailer in January 2013. Cyberpunk 2077, set in the premise of the cult classic Cyberpunk tabletop RPG, let players explore the dystopian, corporate-controlled metropolis of Night City while working with the digital ghost of rock singer and revolutionary Johnny Silverhand, portrayed by Keanu Reeves. Despite over a decade of development and some considerable star power, Cyberpunk 2077 had a lacklustre reaction from many players and journalists due to severe technical difficulties that rendered the game completely unusable for certain users.
