DJI has announced its newest action camera models, including the DJI Osmo Action 6 Adventure Combo and Dji Osmo Action 6 Standard Combo. The Osmo Action 6 introduces two features that have not been typical in action cameras: a variable aperture mechanism and a larger square format image sensor. These additions are aimed at expanding creative control and improving imaging results under a range of shooting conditions.
At the center of the Osmo Action 6 is a 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor with large 2.4 ?m pixels. The size of this sensor is larger than those found in many competing action cameras. The square shape enables flexible cropping options when editing, allowing users to produce footage suited for both horizontal and vertical presentations without significant resolution loss.
For the first time in DJI’s action camera series, the Osmo Action 6 offers a variable aperture that can be adjusted from f/2.0 to f/4.0. This range lets more light reach the sensor in darker conditions, and it can be narrowed to reduce exposure in bright scenes or to influence depth of field. In practical terms, this control helps maintain clarity and detail across different environments.
Video capabilities include 4K capture at up to 120 frames per second, providing options for detailed motion recording. The camera supports advanced colour recording with 10-bit D-Log M profiles, which retain more tonal information for postproduction work. Battery life is rated for several hours of continuous shooting under standard conditions, and built-in storage of around 50 GB reduces immediate reliance on external memory cards.
Image stability remains a core feature of DJI’s action camera lineup, with integrated stabilization technology designed to keep footage smooth during rapid movement. Additional modes such as SuperNight and refined slow motion capture expand the range of usable lighting scenarios and creative applications.
The Osmo Action 6 also supports optional accessories. A dedicated macro lens reduces the minimum focus distance, allowing subjects at close range to be recorded with greater detail. Expanded field of view lenses increase the capture area for wide action shots.
Durability is consistent with expectations for action cameras, with water resistance rated to depths typical for underwater use without protective housing. Temperature resilience and rugged build quality position the device for outdoor and adventure shooting environments.
DJI’s introduction of a variable aperture and a larger sensor marks a shift in the technical approach to action cameras. These features offer practical adjustments for exposure and framing that were previously less common in this category of compact devices.
Pricing and availability vary by region and kit selection. Standard and adventure combos reflect different accessory bundles, accommodating a range of user needs from basic outing documentation to extended adventure capture setups.
