Diablo 4 General Manager does not rule out mini pets in-game

One of the features that gamers loved in Diablo 3 was mini pets, and the community was very dissapointed when the feature was removed in the new iteration of the game, which, in itself, has become a rage in the gaming world. When Rod Fergusson, the General Manager, was asked if the mini pets could make a comeback in Diablo 4, he said that “We’re a ‘never say never’ team.”.

He explained that when the team first discussed Diablo 4, they looked at the features that were most popular in Diablo 3, and among the many names, the one that popped out was mini pets. However, the tone for Diablo 4 was a lot more serious with the main antagonist making a return, and the team felt it better to keep the game grounded and centered around the main threat, rather than adding these quality of life features that would dampen or lighten the mood.

Fergusson likened the Diablo series to a professional tv series. He said that much like a tv series, where the fifth season may be completely different the first season, each version of Diablo will have it’s own features and talking points.

“We get the desire [for mini pets] and we had fun with those as well. We like mini pets, we like to make all that stuff as well,” he said. “But we wanted to make sure that Diablo 4 as sort of the reemergence – the tentpole version of our franchise – was coming in in an authentic, grounded way that we could build from there. That’s not saying we’ll never do it, but it felt too early in season one.”

There is no official news on when and if, mini pets will make a comeback to Diablo 4, so stay tuned to this space for more.
