Clipchamp is the new video editing application from Microsoft for Windows 11

Clipchamp may be the next best thing if you’ve been waiting for Microsoft to resuscitate Windows Movie Maker. Microsoft acquired Clipchamp last year and is now including the program in Windows 11. It’s a browser-based application that includes features for trimming, splitting, transitions, and even a screen recorder.

Clipchamp, like professional applications such as Adobe Premiere Pro, features a timeline and makes use of templates and a collection of filters, transitions, stock media, and styles to enable users to produce films with multi-track audio capability and intuitive editing. Microsoft has integrated a text-to-speech generator powered by Azure for artists to use voiceovers in 70 languages, as well as OneDrive for online storage of data.

Clipchamp is now a Windows 11 “inbox” application, which means it will come preloaded on all new Windows 11 devices. The Microsoft Family app is now an inbox app as well, with capabilities like filtering for Edge, tracking screen time on Xbox, Windows, and Android, and tracking family location.

Along with these app improvements, Microsoft is now testing certain changes to the Windows 11 search experience.

These search highlights will cover holidays, anniversaries, and other significant dates in history. Recent search results will be presented on the right, and if you sign in with a work account, files and contacts will be displayed via Microsoft Search. You can always disable the search highlights function, which is also being rolled out to Windows 10.

Microsoft is also developing additional enhancements to clean up some of Windows’ past. The Print Queue has been modified to match the look of Windows 11, Quick Assist and Windows Sandbox now include Fluent design icons, and Windows Media Player has been renamed Windows Media Player Legacy. It’s obvious that the new Media Player program for Windows 11 will eventually result in the demise of Windows Media Player.

As is customary, some of these improvements will not be visible in Windows 11 for months. Microsoft updates Windows 11 incrementally, and the business is no longer reliant on large annual feature dumps.
