Christian Horner, team principal and CEO of Red Bull Racing, has indicated that the team’s primary focus is now directed toward the 2024 Formula 1 season, offering a glimmer of hope to their rivals despite Red Bull’s commanding lead in both championships.
Red Bull Racing currently enjoys a substantial lead in both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships, making them the frontrunners for the titles. In addition to clinching championships, the team also seeks to break Formula 1 records. Red Bull Racing has already surpassed the McLaren team of 1988 by securing 13 consecutive race victories. Their aim is to achieve something even the formidable duo of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost couldn’t accomplish – winning every race in a season.
While Red Bull Racing appears untouchable at the moment, with Max Verstappen consistently dominating races, their relentless pursuit of more titles may create opportunities for their rivals. Speaking after Verstappen’s win at Spa, Horner revealed that the team’s primary focus is now on designing and building the car for the 2024 season.
Horner explained, “We’ve had an amazing start, and of course, all our focus really goes on to next year at this point in time because in six months, we’ve got to build a completely new car. That’s the same challenge for everybody. Of course, we’ve got dramatically less development time in the wind tunnel, so we have to apply our resources very, very carefully and sparingly, and so that’s a big challenge.”
Horner also took the opportunity to praise the often unsung heroes behind the scenes at Red Bull Racing, highlighting their contributions to the team’s success. He mentioned Greg Reeson, a tire technician, who collected the trophy on the podium in Belgium. Horner emphasized that the dedication of individuals like Reeson and the collective efforts of every department play a crucial role in achieving the team’s exceptional results.
“I think that just demonstrates that again the good work that is going on in all departments behind the scenes,” Horner remarked. “Today, we sent Greg, one of our tire technicians, to go and get the trophy. He’s one of those guys again that works tireless hours. This week has been a nightmare. Wet, dry, mediums, blah, blah, blah, and it’s every department that is doing their bit to achieve this kind of result.”
