Apple seems to be working hard behind the scenes on revamping their lineup across the board and we have some news today which will excite the Apple Watch communities. Repots online suggest that the Cupertino giant is working to integrate cameras and Apple Intelligence features into the beloved wearable series. If all goes according to plan, we could see these futuristic wearables hit the market within the next two years.
The standard Apple Watch Series is expected to house its camera inside the display, while the rugged Apple Watch Ultra will sport one on the side, nestled beside the digital crown and button. Why slap a camera onto a watch? Simple—so it can “see” the world around you and use AI to deliver real-time, context-aware information. This concept isn’t limited to the Watch either—Apple is reportedly developing camera-equipped AirPods that will tap into the same Visual Intelligence system.
If you’ve used an iPhone 16, you’ve already had a taste of what Visual Intelligence can do. It’s the feature that lets your phone scan an event flyer and instantly add details to your calendar or pull up restaurant information just by pointing your camera at a storefront. Currently, Apple relies on third-party AI models for this, but Gurman claims the company is gunning for full autonomity. By 2027, Apple aims to have its own in-house AI models powering these smart wearables, ensuring a seamless ecosystem across its devices.
Of course, rolling out AI-powered wearables is no small feat, and a lot of this hinges on Apple’s internal leadership. Mike Rockwell, previously at the helm of the Vision Pro project, is now steering the effort to get Siri’s long-overdue AI overhaul back on track. His involvement in visionOS and other AI-powered innovations suggests that Apple is playing the long game, potentially paving the way for AR glasses further down the line. Could we finally see Apple’s answer to Meta’s Orion concept? Time will tell, but the pieces are falling into place.
One thing’s for sure—wearables are about to get a serious intelligence boost, and Apple is making sure it stays ahead of the curve.
