Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, developed by Sledgehammer Games, is set to be the next installment in the Call of Duty franchise, following the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The game is scheduled for release on November 10, 2023. A teaser trailer released on Twitter features a red logo written in Roman numerals, similar to the style used in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
This marks a departure from the typical development cycle of the Call of Duty series, where different development teams create alternating titles, resulting in a longer overall development cycle of 2-3 years. In this case, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is following its predecessor more closely.
Sledgehammer Games, which was established in 2009, has a history of working on Call of Duty titles, including the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in collaboration with Infinity Ward in 2011. They have been involved in the development of every mainline entry since the 2019 reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is expected to continue the loose reboot approach seen in its predecessor, sharing some characters and key plot points while offering new surprises to keep the series fresh.
The game will coexist with Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale mode that has been immensely popular since its release. Call of Duty: Warzone’s previous iteration is set to shut down in September.
