Verizon has decided to sunset its BlueJeans video conferencing suite just three years after acquiring the platform. In an email to customers, Verizon explained its decision to discontinue BlueJeans products, citing a need to optimize costs. The move comes after Verizon hoped BlueJeans would compete with popular video conferencing platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
BlueJeans primarily targeted businesses and enterprises, with customers including Facebook, Adobe, and Dolby. The platform offered both paid Pro and Enterprise plans, as well as a free Basic tier.
As part of the discontinuation process, BlueJeans will discontinue its Basic and free trial offerings on August 31, 2023, and remove access to these services. Customers are encouraged to download any saved recordings before this date. The email did not provide specific details about the Pro and Enterprise plans or their discontinuation dates.
Verizon’s decision to sunset BlueJeans reflects the competitive nature of the video conferencing market, with dominant players like Zoom and Microsoft Teams maintaining their positions in the industry.
