Ayaneo Pocket Air Mini Launches with 4:3 Display for Retro Gaming Fans

Ayaneo has unveiled its latest handheld device, the Pocket Air Mini, and this one is clearly built with retro gaming enthusiasts in mind. The highlight of this new handheld is its 4.2-inch display that uses a proper 4:3 aspect ratio, just like older consoles and classic games. The screen also packs a 1280×960 resolution, reaches 500 nits of peak brightness, and is color calibrated for over 123% sRGB coverage.

To provide gamers with competant gaming power, the Ayaneo Pocket Air Mini runs on the MediaTek Helio G90T processor, which might sound old but is more than good enough for running classic and emulated games. The device comes with an active cooling fan so you don’t have to worry about overheating when gaming for hours. In terms of build, it’s compact at 6.5 inches wide, weighs just 269g, and features RGB Hall effect joysticks, Hall triggers, a classic D-pad, and conductive rubber ABXY buttons.

Connectivity is well endowed with USB-C, a 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD expansion, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5. The device is powered by a 4500mAh battery so you can play for long stretches without constantly charging. Everything runs on Android 11 with Ayaneo’s custom software, designed to make it easy to access your games and emulators from one place.

The Pocket Air Mini will be available in two variants. The 2+32GB model comes in at an introductory price of $70, while the 3+64GB version is priced at $80. You can pick from three colors: Retro White, Aurora Black, and Retro Power. Sales start in October.
