Amazon Web Services (AWS), has been bringing in some great innovations in the PC market lately, and their newest innovation involves a mini PC that can carry out business operations and still fit your pocket. The announcement comes just ahead of the re:INVENT event that is scheduled to take place in a few days.
The new Amazon WorkSpaces Thin Client, finds its foundations in the Amazon Fire Stick Cube Streaming offering, but when it comes to the performance, the Thin client packs a punch. Powering the WorkSpaces Thin Client is an eight-core processor with a top speed of 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage, USB and HDMI outputs and Bluetooth connections. The best part is, you get all of this portability and power for a reasonable price of $195 per device.
Now, AWS has made it clear that the WorkSpaces Thin Client has been designed with enterprise in mind, so general users should think before investing in one of these. The main aim of the Thin client is to reduce technology costs while also providing enhanced security. They noted that many of the computers and laptops issued to workers are not returned, and this in turn incurs a cost to the company as they have to replace these pieces.
“Customers told us they needed a lower-cost device, especially in high-turnover environments, like call centers or payment processing,” said Melissa Stein, director of product for End User Computing at AWS.
The WorkSpaces Thin Client will require you to enter the employee details, after which, it is only a 5 minute setup procedure. The system will only support Amazon services to begin with, such as the AWS WorkSpaces streamed virtual desktop platform, the AWS WorkSpaces Web remote browser, and AWS AppStream published apps service.
The Amazon WorkSpaces Thin Client is available to order now in the USA, with a European launch scheduled for 2024. The rest of the world will get this device a little later on.
